New Britain's Got Talent judge Bruno Tonioli has admitted he was "nervous" signing-on to the show.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star is set to make his debut on the ITV show in the upcoming series, replacing David Walliams.

Speaking ahead of the new series, Bruno told Digital Spy and other media that he was anxious to begin with given that fellow judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden had been part of the series for years, and he didn't know the rules.

"I was nervous because I had no idea. I had never seen the show," he said. "Obviously, they're all friends, but they've done it for 10 years.

"I was actually nervous because it's like you're jumping into a play, you've never rehearsed with a cast you do your performance with.

"They have been so supportive," Bruno added. "I really thank you. I tell you from my heart, I'm not a bullshitter, I enjoyed every moment. I was really tense, but I've enjoyed every moment."

The judge also spoke further on how no-one explained the rules to him beforehand, admitting: "Alesha tried, but obviously, it went completely over my head. And then I asked, what are the rules? There's no rules, darling.

"But obviously there were rules, but whatever happened happened. I know now. I will be much better behaved in the live shows, I promise."

Simon explained that they realised from the get-go that Bruno had "never watched" the show, with Simon comparing it to himself "judging Strictly", recalling: "It was hilarious, it was so funny."

Bruno continued: "I had no idea about the buzzers. I didn't know you only had one. I just loved bashing it. It was such a pleasure, whacking the thing."

Britain's Got Talent airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
