Britain’s Got Talent judges share reactions to "beautiful" Golden Buzzer act

The Britain’s Got Talent judges have shared their reactions to "beautiful" Golden Buzzer act Sydnie Christmas.
On the first episode of the new series, which aired tonight (April 20), singer Sydnie wowed both the judges and the audience with her charming personality and powerful voice.
With dreams of performing in the West End, she sang a rendition of ‘Tomorrow’ from the musical Annie, and while Simon Cowell confessed that it was his least favourite song, Sydnie won him over with her performance.

After the audition, fellow judge Amanda Holden pushed her Golden Buzzer, sending Sydnie straight through to the semi-finals.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at the press launch for the new series, Amanda was full of praise for her act and compared her to a global superstar.
She said: "Sydnie Christmas, what a beautiful girl. For me, she had the vibes of Adele, in that she was humble, [she had a] sense of humour. I said to Simon, she was a clown, but you could see it meant so much to her on the day."
Alesha Dixon concurred with Amanda, and recalled: "She was so funny, at first we thought she was going to do stand-up comedy."

Bruno Tonioli, who has returned for his second year as a judge, also remarked on the distinctiveness of Sydnie's voice.
"A lot of singers now sound the same, you cannot distinguish… you couldn’t tell who is who," he said. "[But] this girl has such a unique timbre. Old-school, real. That gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, because it’s real and it’s unique and it’s her.
"And the way she finished the song… she pulled it right back, and made it like a conversation between two people. That is a great skill. It’s not about trying to outsing Mariah Carey, which they usually do. It gives me faith in true talent."
The first episode of BGT’s 17th series also saw hosts Ant and Dec push their Golden Buzzer, and the return of dog trainer Lucy Heath, who made the final with dog Trip Hazard back in 2016.
Britain’s Got Talent continues on Sunday, April 21 at 7.40pm, airing on ITV1 and ITVX.
