Huddersfield Town dropped into the Championship relegation places after conceding a penalty in the 10th minute of stoppage time to draw 1-1 at Bristol City.

The Terriers had the better of the first period but failed to test Max O'Leary in the Bristol City goal as the Robins failed to click after their 5-0 win over Blackburn on Wednesday night.

City improved after the break and Josh Koroma's late goal seemed to have been enough to get all three points for the Yorkshire side.

But Oliver Turton was adjudged to have handled Cameron Pring's cross in the area deep in stoppage time and Nahki Wells converted from the spot.

While the draw saw Huddersfield earn a fifth point in a three-game unbeaten run, a win for Birmingham City over Coventry City saw Town drop into the relegation zone - they are a point and a place from safety with three games to play.

The draw sees Bristol City stay in 12th place in the Championship table.

Huddersfield impressed in the opening half hour as David Kasumu, Brodie Spencer Alex Matos and Josh Koroma all had efforts off target in a goalless first period.

City's first decent effort did not come until 10 minutes into the second half when Jason Knight's near-post effort was saved by Lee Nicholls while Matty James had a long-range strike saved soon after.

Jack Rudoni should have put Huddersfield ahead midway through the second half when he was found in the middle of the penalty area by Matos, but his low effort went wide of the far post.

Wells went close with a 73rd-minute effort having just come off the bench before O'Leary was equal to a Sorba Thomas effort.

Rudoni played a key part in Town's goal as he broke down the right and saw his deflected shot fall perfectly for Koroma who scored for the second successive game from close range.

But just as Town were preparing to celebrate staying out of the drop zone they were hit by a sucker punch as Wells converted from the spot.
