Bringing home the bacon: York County munis get $2.2M in grants for roads to cop cars

York County has been awarded $2.2 million in state grant funding to pay for various projects throughout the county, from streetscape improvements in Glen Rock to the purchase of exercise equipment for the YMCA in Jackson Township.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority announced the grants for an assortment of projects from range from infrastructure improvements to public safety to transportation upgrades to recreation, according to a news release. The grants were funneled through two funds, one intended to improve transportation and the other meant to improve the quality of life in communities.

The grants were:

  • $783,750 to Glen Rock Borough for streetscape improvements along Main Street.

  • $233,500 to West Manchester Township for intersection improvements at Lincoln Highway and Salem Church Road.

  • $125,925 to Carroll Township to purchase three new police vehicles and the same amount to Fairview Township to also purchase three police vehicles.

  • $100,000 to Dallastown Borough for a new truck and sewer inspection equipment to help with maintenance.

  • $106,459 to Felton Borough for improvements to Church Lane.

  • $76,967 to Hallam Borough to purchase a new pick-up truck with a snowplow conversion kit, spill guard kit and rearview camera kit, as well as a rotary cutter and rock grapple attachments for its tractor.

  • $156,312 to Heidelberg Township to construct and install an emergency generator, 340 linear feet of perimeter fencing, a vehicle gate, and lighting at a well facility.

  • $164,950 to Manchester Borough to purchase a bucket truck.

  • $54,100 to New Freedom Borough to purchase and install an emergency generator to serve the Rose Fire Company and the New Freedom Community Center, which houses the Southern York County Senior Center.

  • $25,545 to Windsor Borough to complete improvements to the borough building.

  • $69,658 to the York County Economic Alliance, on behalf of Bell Socialization, to purchase an accessible van in Penn Township.

  • $27,136 to the York County Economic Alliance, on behalf of Northern Central Railway of York, to purchase a wheelchair lift and replace mobile stairs at its historic train station in New Freedom.

  • $108,138 to the York County Economic Alliance to complete security updates to facilities in York City and Hanover Borough.

  • $54,592 to the York County Economic Alliance to assist the YMCA of the Roses to purchase exercise equipment for its new facility in Jackson Township.
