It's about to be Nicola Coughlan's moment. Bridgerton season three, in which she stars as Penelope Featherington, drops next week on Netflix. Perhaps gearing up for the premiere, the Irish actress opted not to attend this year's Met Gala, despite some of her Bridgerton costars—including Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey—walking the carpet.

Many online were disappointed to not see the actress at the Met, as she has always embraced fashion as a tool for storytelling.

"I get a lot of joy from it," Coughlan said in a recent interview. She added, "Fashion matters because it's how it makes you feel. I always say that you'll feel different in a pair of pajamas to a ball gown. When I dress up, it makes me feel more powerful and sometimes sexier—it can make you feel a million different ways. There's so much power in dressing. If you can utilize it to make you feel your best then that's a brilliant thing."

Coughlan made her Met Gala debut back in 2022, wearing a feathered black and pink Richard Quinn gown.

Despite missing last night's event, her style is set to be front and center in the coming weeks, and she's been working with stylist Aimée Croysdill as she promotes the upcoming Bridgerton season. "Nicola is brilliant," Croysdill told Harper's Bazaar UK of their partnership. "She brings film references and iconic moments in pop culture and film, then I pair it with fashion moments, so we have a beautiful synergy between the two. Both of us will come with ideas for different events and we will just roll with it, it's such a great relationship."

Croysdill adds that her goal as a stylist is "to make people feel amazing and like themselves; that's at the fundamental core of what I do, to get to know someone's personality and bring out that sense of the individual."
