There will soon be fewer options for wedding dress shopping in Durham.

David’s Bridal, a budget-friendly bridal chain based in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, is closing its store at Renaissance Center across from The Streets of Southpoint. Samina Walker, a customer service representative there, said a closing date has not been announced, but the store is set to close in August or September.

The announcement follows David’s Bridals’ filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April with $257 million of debt. It was the second time the company has filed for bankruptcy in the past five years.

The bridal store chain is the largest in the United States with 278 stores. This includes 10 stores in North Carolina and two in the Triangle (the second one is in Raleigh on Louisburg Road)..

According to an email statement, David’s Bridal has started the closing process for some locations and is looking for a buyer for the company. David’s Bridal did not comment on how many or which stores it plans to close.

Sales, discounts at Durham’s David’s Bridal

David’s Bridal at Renaissance Center is offering discounts leading up to its closing.

Walker said all items in the store are on sale. Clearance items are 60% off, prom, special occasion and mother-of-the-bride dresses iare 40% off and most wedding dresses, sashes and veils are 30% off.

Most bridal gowns range from $900 to $1,000. Some bridesmaids’ dresses can be found for around $30 to $70.

The company’s stores across North Carolina intend to fulfill orders without disruption or delay, and customers should not see any changes in service due to the bankruptcy, according to a statement from David’s Bridal.

The store will still offer a time window for tailoring.

Weddings can be expensive and buying a dress can be part of that cost. According to The Knot Real Weddings Survey published on Knot.com in February, the average cost of a wedding dress for the 12,000 couples who married in 2022 was $1,900.
