GREEN BAY — A new retail store for LEGO fans will open next month.

The Brick Spot is currently under construction and is expected to open in mid-June at 1330 S. Military Ave., the former space of Golrusk Pet Care Center. Karen Ann Novotny co-owns the business with her husband Jason. She said they cleaned the building and added walls to divide up the space.

"There was very little interior structure," Novotny said.

The new LEGO store will have several rooms that will be used for different things, Novotny said. There will be a large retail space with tables and chairs for summer programs, an event room for birthday parties and similar events and a separate space for online store merchandise.

Novotny said the store will sell used and retired sets as well as unique pieces and parts. Currently, the online store has more than 200,000 items.

"We won't have many new, current sets," she said. "Specially those you can find at Target and Walmart. We can't compete with their prices."

Novotny said the store is more for people that do a lot of building, are looking for random parts or to replace a piece they lost.

She also said the idea of opening a physical store was to have a place for events like the LEGO buy, sell and trade event she does four times a year at the Tundra Lodge, 865 Lombardi Ave. in Ashwaubenon.

"I wanted to do it to be able to continue giving back to the community," Novotny said. "There needs to be another outlet of creativity and more hands on stuff that is fun."
