Brianna Ghey – latest: Two teenagers charged with murder of trans girl in park

A 15-year-old girl from Warrington and a 15-year-old boy from Leigh have been charged with the murder of 16-year-old trans girl Brianna Ghey.

Police confirmed the news on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday Cheshire Police investigating the fatal stabbing said they are now looking at whether it was a hate crime.

Detectives initially said there was no evidence to suggest the transgender teenager’s killing in Warrington, Cheshire on Saturday was “hate-related”.

Meanwhile, vigils have been held in a number of UK cities to mourn the loss of 16 year-old Brianna Ghey.

Crowds gathered in Liverpool and Bristol on Tuesday night to pay tribute to Brianna, who was stabbed to death in a park at the weekend.

The teenage girl, from Birchwood in Warrington, was found by members of the public as she lay wounded on a path in Linear Park, Culcheth, at around 3.13pm on Saturday.

A GoFundMe appeal raising money for the teenager’s grieving family has already raised more than £70,000.

A fundraising appeal to support the family of a 16 year-old stabbed to death in a park has raised more than £87,000.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the loved ones of Brianna Ghey with funeral costs after she was tragically killed in Cheshire on Saturday.

The crowdfunding page was set up by Victoria Potter, who described the teenager as “an outgoing, confident girl.”

So far, the appeal has raised £87,056, far more than the £4,216 goal.

“She brought a lot of laughter to those who knew her,” Ms Potter wrote. “She was looking forward to taking her exams this year and beginning her journey into the adult world.

“We have set up this page to help the family at this truly devastating time. We need your support to help them with funeral costs (we want to make this pink and colourful to match her personality) and ask if you can spare anything no matter how small to try to relieve their stress and allow them to grieve their beautiful daughter.”

A teenager who was stabbed to death in a park on Saturday said just days before her death that she had been excluded from school.

A clip was posted to Brianna’s TikTok channel days before she died with the caption: “Got excluded from school.”

Brianna had a large fanbase online, with around 31,000 followers on her since-deactivated TikTok channel. Her videos typically featured her dancing and lip-syncing to pop songs.

In many of her clips she was seen wearing a Birchwood Community High School uniform. Friends claimed she endured cruel treatment by fellow pupils, with one telling The Sun “she had been bullied in school for years”.

One man living near to the scene in Culcheth recalled seeing several police cars enter the park on Saturday afternoon.

A mother who lives locally said children are shocked and upset by what has happened to Brianna Ghey.

Maxine Dalton, who says she has a 15-year-old who goes to Culcheth High School, told the Liverpool Echo: “We’re just shocked. It’s a quiet little village and for something to happen like that is horrendous. It’s a local walking spot, a lot of people go walking down there.”

Ms Dalton said it’s “heartbreaking” that this has happened to a child and the village is shaken up.

Those living and working locally in the village of Culcheth in Warrington are in shock after the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey.

“It’s not good, it’s sad. It’s just so unnecessary, she was so young,” Dianne Nicholson, who works in a newsagents close to where Ms Ghey was attacked in Linear Park, told the Liverpool Echo.

The local spoke of the shock felt by everyone that the attack had happened in broad daylight, adding that “it’s what everyone is talking about” and the mood in the village is “sombre”.

Brianna Ghey’s final TikTok video shows the 16-year-old girl walking in a park similar to the one where she was found dead.

The transgender teen had a large fanbase online with 31,000 followers.

In her final video, which has been met with 8,000 comments - many expressing grief - she is seen walking in what looks to be Linear Park in Culcheth, the same site where she was stabbed to death and found on Saturday afternoon.

A murder investigation has commenced with a 15-year-old boy and girl having now been arrested.

Brianna began the video by saying she was going to give life “one last try” before a musical montage plays over her walking in the park and dancing.

Two 15-year-olds remain in custody after being arrested on suspicion of stabbing 16-year-old Brianna Ghey to death in a park.

The victim, from Birchwood in Warrington, Cheshire, was found by members of the public as she lay wounded on a path in Linear Park, Culcheth, at around 3.13pm on Saturday.

Brianna was a transgender girl but police said there is no evidence to suggest her murder was a hate crime.

A boy and a girl from the local area have been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

In a statement published on Monday morning, Brianna’s family said her death has left a “massive hole in our family”.

“She was a larger-than-life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her. Brianna was beautiful, witty and hilarious. Brianna was strong, fearless and one of a kind.

“The loss of her young life has left a massive hole in our family, and we know that the teachers and her friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.”

The statement added: “We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this extremely difficult time.

“We would like to thank the police for their support, and witnesses for helping with the investigation.

“The continuation of respect for privacy is greatly appreciated.”

Tributes have been paid to Brianna Ghey as trans groups and charities react to her murder.

Transgender Brianna has been mourned by her social media followers including on TikTok - where the 16-year-old was a star with a following of 31,000.

Her body was found on a path at Linear Park in Culcheth, Warrington, at 3.13pm on Saturday after she was fatally stabbed. Cheshire Police confirmed on Sunday that a boy and girl, both aged 15, were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of murder and are being questioned.
