Brian Wilson Placed in Conservatorship Months After Wife's Death

Brian Wilson has been placed in a conservatorship, new reports reveal.

The Beach Boys founder was appointed two guardians by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gus T. May on Thursday, nearly four months after the death of his second wife, Melinda Ledbetter, and three months after his management team filed a petition.

A doctor’s statement in a copy of the filing obtained by Deadline stated that Wilson suffers from a “major neurocognitive disorder,” is taking medication for dementia and “is unable to properly provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”

"The court finds from clear and convincing evidence that a conservatorship of the person is necessary and appropriate in that (Wilson) is unable to care for (his) person," a minute order procured by USA Today reporters explained. "The conservatorship is the least restrictive alternative needed for the protection of conservatee."

Wilson’s affairs will be overseen by his longtime publicist, Jean Sievers, and manager, LeeAnn Hard, both of whom filed the petition for co-conservatorship back in February.

The 81-year-old musician has reportedly consented to the arrangement, according to court docs obtained by several outlets.

As for Wilson’s medical care, Hard and Sievers were granted the authority to "authorize the administration of medications appropriate for the care and treatment," per materials reviewed by USA Today. There is a stipulation, though, as the representatives must consult with Wilson's children on "all material related healthcare decisions" for their father.

The "Good Vibrations" composer adopted five children with Melinda, who died in January at the age of 77–Dakota Rose, Daria Rose, Delanie Rose, Dylan and Dash–he also shares two children–Wendy Wilson and Carnie Wilson–with his first wife, Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford.

Neither Sievers, Hard, nor any of Wilson's family members have responded to outlets' requests for comment or publicly commented on the conservatorship as of writing.
