Brian Gosset: Biggest things from the second round of the playoffs in the Fort Worth-area
The playoffs continue as Fort Worth-area teams look to march toward the state championship. A lot of action took place with impressive wins and big upsets, plus top recruits proving why they’re some of the best in the state.
Check out the best of the best from the second round of the playoffs.
Best win
North Crowley 49, Pebble Hills 42
Senior running back Dejuan Lacy capped off a 200 yard rushing performance with the go-ahead TD run with 34 seconds left as the Panthers prevailed for the 6A D1 area championship.
Lacy got his third 200 yard game in the past four weeks.
He’s been on a roll in the postseason with 241 yards and four TDs in the bi-district win over Timber Creek.
North Crowley is one of six area teams still undefeated. The Panthers led 14-0 after one quarter and 21-14 at halftime. The lead grew to 35-21 after three before Pebble Hills rallied.
North Crowley rushed for 342 yards as a team.
QB Chris Jimerson added 89 yards passing, 84 rushing and two scores. It’s North Crowley’s first trip to the third round of the playoffs since winning state in 2003. The Panthers will play Prosper in the regional semifinals.
Biggest Upset
Godley 41, Seminole 40
The Wildcats erased a 26-14 deficit in the first quarter and then held on in the fourth quarter to knock off Seminole for a 4A D2 area championship. Godley outscored Seminole 27-0 in the second and third quarters.
The Wildcats led 41-26 after three and held on late.
It’s Godley first trip to the regional semifinals since 2013 where it will play Monahans.
Landon Thigpen was a beast rushing 44 times for a season-high 336 yards and scored three TDs. It’s his third 300 yard game this season as he goes over 2,800 yards and 26 touchdowns.
QB Kole Allen threw 8 of 15 for 148 yards and one score for Godley.
Drew Coleman had seven catches for 136 yards and one TD.
Seminole came into the game with a 10-1 record.

Chad Ragle, Sr., QB, Midlothian
The Panthers rolled by Amarillo 56-28 in the 5A D1 area championship. Midlothian is 12-0.
The last time Midlothian went 12-0 was 1984.
The Panthers will play Aledo in the regional semifinals.
QB Chad Ragle did damage through the air and with his feet, accounting for 400 yards and six touchdowns.
Ragle threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 188 and four scores against the Sandies. His favorite target was Bryant Wesco who had five catches for 168 yards and two TDs.
228 yards rushing
Parker Polk, Sr., RB, Grapevine
Polk rushed for 228 yards and five touchdowns as the Mustangs won a 5A D2 area championship over Abilene Cooper 38-21.
It was Polk’s second 200 yard game this season. He had 260 against Arlington Heights in Week 10. His five TD runs are a career-high. He has 24 rushing touchdowns on the season and over 1,800 yards.
The Mustangs improved to 11-1.
Their only loss came in Week 3 against Argyle. The two teams will meet in a rematch during the regional semifinals.
210 yards receiving
Xavier Moten/Tae Jackson, WR, Midlothian Heritage
In their first year in Class 5A, the Heritage Jaguars won another playoff game, 45-37 over Crandall to advance to the D2 regional semifinals.
Heritage’s wide receiver duo of Moten and Jackson came to play on the offensive front, both going over 100 yards in the game and scoring a touchdown each.
Jackson starred on both side with eight catches and 104 yards with an interception and a 40-yard return. Moten added four catches for 106 yards.
