Brewers vs Mets on opening day at Citi Field: Live score, updates, highlights

NEW YORK – Game on.

After a forecast of steady rain — which did indeed prove accurate — scuttled opening day for the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets on Thursday, the teams will begin the 2024 season by getting after it at Citi Field this afternoon.

Freddy Peralta takes the ball for the first time on opening day and will be countered by a familiar foe in left-hander José Quintana. Peralta is the third pitcher born in the Dominican Republic to start opening day for Milwaukee, joining Rafael Roque (1999) and Wily Peralta (2016).

Entering their 56th season as a franchise, the Brewers are 28-26-1 all-time on opening day, 16-17-1 in road lid-lifters and 12-13-1 since joining the National League in 1998.

Friday's game marks the first time the Brewers have faced the Mets on opening day and just the third time Milwaukee has played a New York team. It opened on the road against the Yankees in 1977 (3-0 loss) and 1979 (5-1 win).
