Janelt’s 96th-minute equaliser helped Brentford extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 11 games and deny Palace their first win of 2023. After a first half with little attacking action, it was the substitutes who brought the game to life. First, it was Eze who made an immediate impact. Olise, who had been in the middle of every Palace attack, picked out the substitute with a pinpoint cross, allowing Eze to score a simple header from close range. The 24-year-old then found Mateta in the box. The striker elected to shoot rather than play it out to Olise who was unmarked, seeing his shot blocked. Throwing men forward, Brentford found an equaliser with one of the last kicks of the game. On the right flank, Mbeumo’s cross flashed across the box, finding Janelt who powered it into the net.
