Manchester United have had a hard time finding the right manager over the past decade. But after firing club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and bringing on Ralf Rangnick as their interim coach, England’s biggest club has decided on a new manager.

According to ESPN’s Mark Ogden and Rob Dawson, Man United are finalizing a deal to hire Erik ten Hag as their new manager. Ten Hag has served as the manager at Ajax in the Netherlands since 2017 and has been wildly successful with the Dutch club.

In less than four years at Ajax, ten Hag has won two league titles, two league cups and over 74-percent of his games. But perhaps his greatest accomplishment was leading Ajax to the UEFA Champions League semifinals in the 2018-19 season.

Ajax stunned three-time defending champion Real Madrid in the Round of 16 before knocking off Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus in the quarter-finals. The team would ultimately get eliminated in the semifinals by Tottenham Hotspur but became an international Cinderella story in the process.

Now Erik ten Hag will be tasked with replicating the feat at Manchester United.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, Manchester United have hired and fired four full-time managers and given the reins to several caretakers.

While Man United have won several lesser titles in that span, winning the two biggest competitions – the Premier League and Champions League – has eluded them.

Expectations are always high at Man United and Erik ten Hag might not have a ton of leeway to make mistakes.

Will ten Hag be the right man for the job?
