Earlier this Wednesday, ESPN’s Todd Archer announced that Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a foot injury in practice and was listed as a limited participant. Unfortunately, the latest update on his status is quite devastating.

Cowboys insider Joe Trahan of WFAA was first to report that Lawrence suffered a broken foot during Wednesday’s practice. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has confirmed this report from Trahan.

Lawrence is heading to injured reserve because of this foot injury, but it’s unclear if he’ll miss the rest of the 2021 season.

This is yet another huge blow to Dallas’ defensive line. Just a few days ago, the Cowboys placed defensive end Randy Gregory on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Of course, this is also a tough pill to swallow for Lawrence. He spent the majority of this past offseason recovering from back surgery. Now, he’ll have to deal with another lengthy rehab.

With Lawrence out indefinitely and Gregory’s status for Week 2 in doubt, Dallas will need Tarell Basham and Dorance Armstrong Jr. to step up.

Basham is coming of a productive season with the New York Jets, as he had 3.5 sacks and 36 total tackles in 2020. Armstrong, meanwhile, registered 33 tackles through 16 games and two starts for the Cowboys last season.

Hopefully, Lawrence can rejoin the Cowboys at some point later this year. He’s undoubtedly one of the best players on their roster.
