The Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs quietly agreed to a trade on Monday, two days after the conclusion of the NFL Draft.

Houston has sent defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. to Kansas City. The Texans announced the trade with little fanfare on their team website this afternoon.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs sent a 2024 conditional seventh-round pick as compensation for Johnson.

A second-round pick out of Kentucky in 2019, Johnson played in 44 games over three seasons in Houston. He entered the league as a safety but has also played cornerback.

In 2021, Johnson appeared in 14 contests with seven starts. He made 55 tackles and intercepted three passes.

Ironically, as a rookie, Johnson scored a touchdown on a blocked punt in Houston’s 51-31 divisional round playoff loss to Kansas City. Now, he’ll be making plays for the Chiefs instead of against them.
