A new spot for Brazilian barbecue is coming to one of the busiest shopping corridors in the Midlands.

Rio Express Grill Brazilian BBQ plans to open at 5594-B Sunset Blvd. in Lexington. That’s in a small shopping center that also includes a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop, a Chipotle, a Fleet Feet shoe store and more.

An opening date for the Rio Express Grill has not been publicly announced, but there is a “coming soon” sign in the window, along with a building permit. The restaurant has been sharing construction updates on its social media pages.

“Every detail was carefully planned to create a welcoming and authentic environment where barbecue tradition meets modernity,” the restaurant said in a recent Facebook post.

Rio Express Grill also said in a social media post that it will offer “succulent meats” and “delicious sides.” One of the dishes served at the restaurant will be lamb marinated in white wine and lemon pepper. Rio Express also will serve, among other things, tender pork shoulder marinated in white wine and orange, as well as prime picanha sirloin steak.

The Brazillian barbecue spot will be coming to a bustling retail area, with a Walmart and a Home Depot nearby, along with a host of other restaurants and shops. About 37,000 cars per day pass down that stretch of Sunset Boulevard near North Lake Drive, according to state Department of Transportation statistics.
