Brandin Podziemski, Alondes Williams named to NBA all-star rising stars

PORTLAND – Greenfield’s Brandin Podziemski will participate in his first NBA all-star weekend in Indianapolis as a member of the NBA’s Rising Stars rosters on Feb. 16. The 20-year-old was the No. 19 pick in the draft by the Golden State Warriors out of Santa Clara and earned a berth on the 11-man rookie team by shooting 38.8% from behind the three-point line through his first 37 games.

Podziemski is averaging 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in about 25 minutes per game for Steve Kerr’s team.

He has started 10 games, including one against the Milwaukee Bucks in his homecoming game on Jan. 13. In 35 minutes he scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in that game.

Milwaukee native Alondes Williams was also named to the game due to his play with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League. He is one of seven G League players to join Podziemski and the rookies and 10 second-year players.

Williams, 24, is a Milwaukee Riverside alumnus and has played in one NBA game (in 2022-23 with Brooklyn). In 12 games with the Skyforce, Williams averaged 23.5 points per game on 55.9% shooting, including 41.9% from behind the three-point line. He’s also averaging 6.3 assists per game.

The Rising Stars is a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. It will air at 8 p.m. CT on TNT. The players will be drafted on Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. CT by honorary captains Pau Gasol, Tamika Catchings, Jalen Rose and Detlef Schrempf.
