The Boys spoilers follow.

The Boys has released a new trailer for its upcoming fourth season, teasing a bloody, "biblical war" ahead.

The clip opens with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) solemnly admitting: "I look back at my life and all I see are the messes I've made... and I ain't got time to fix it".

"I can do one thing right with the time I've got left, but I can't do it alone," he continues, referring to his numbered days after shooting up Temp V throughout season three.

The footage then cuts to a montage of 'The Boys' – aka Hughie (Jack Quaid), Annie (Erin Moriarty), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capone) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) – who are prepared to do whatever it takes to put an end to Homelander’s (Antony Starr) reign of terror.

After all, the blue-eyed Supe is now preparing to turn The Seven from "beloved celebrities" into "wrathful gods", though Butcher has a special card up his sleeve to prevent their complete takeover: a deadly, Supe-slaying virus.

"This is insane and desperate, even for you," Annie says of the plan, to which Butcher bites back: "Well insane and desperate is where we’re at, don’t you think?"

The full synopsis for season four reads: "The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power.

"Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca's son as well as his job as The Boys' leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it's too late."

The Boys seasons 1-3 are streaming on Prime Video, along with spin-off Gen V. Season 4 is due in June 2024.
