The first trailer for The Boys season 4 has been released – and it promises chaos.

The clip was released today (December 2), teasing a big political fight alongside plenty of gory action.

The trailer starts with Sister Sage's (Susan Heyward) voice declaring that "all democracies fail" because "people are f**king stupid".

"But if you crush the masses, who builds your monuments?" she adds to Homelander (Antony Starr). "The people will tear apart themselves... you just gotta nudge them a little. Then you get to swoop in and be the one saving it... Like Caesar."

We then see a load of action, before the clip hones in on a chat between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's new character, who asks when told the name of The Boys: "Who came up with that shit?"

The full synopsis for season four reads: "The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power.

"Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late."

The trailer comes after a first look at season four was unveiled last month, which follows surprise cameos from Billy and Homelander in spin-off show Gen V. In the images, Homelander looks triumphant, while Billy appears downcast.

The new clip doesn't give a concrete release date, only that the new episodes will be "coming soon" in 2024 – so watch this space for further updates.

The Boys seasons 1-3 and Gen V season 1 are available to watch in full on Amazon Prime Video.
