When Will The Boys Season 4 Be On Amazon?

The Boys

The Boys has proven to be one of the most popular - and violent - shows on Amazon Prime, deconstructing the superhero myth, lampooning corporate culture and the corrupt world of US politics, and taking great delight in blowing up genitals.

It’s been a while since the Boys Season 3 aired, but we most recently got a glimpse of stars The Butcher and Homelander in the season finale of college spin-off Gen V. Those cameos caused a ripple of excitement, and had us all asking, when does The Boys Season 4 arrive on Amazon?

When Will The Boys Season 4 Be Released On Amazon?

The good news is that The Boys Season 4 was confirmed by Amazon on June 10, 2022, with a release date set for sometime in 2024. We know from actors on Instagram that Season 4 wrapped filming in April 2023, so that’s all in the bag. Season 3 aired between June and July in 2022, so we have hopes that The Boys Season 4 will show in the middle of next year, again with eight episodic releases.

It’s also fair to assume Amazon will release the first three episodes in one go over a themed weekend, and the remaining episodes once a week every Friday, a model it follows closely.

Amazon has offered this story synopsis as it released the first trailer for The Boys Season 5.

"The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late."

The Boys is based on the hyper-violent comic from Preacher and Hellblazer writer Garth Ennis, and Transmetropolitan artist Darick Robertson, both of whom act as producers on the show.

Epic Kripke, writer and director of the TV show, said he was over the moon that The Boys Season 4 was given the greenlight. “Speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success.”

All of the main cast of The Boys are due to return for Season 4, including Karl Urban and Billy Butcher, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Anthony Starr as Homelander and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro.

One of the most interesting additions to The Boys Season 4 cast is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, best known for his nasty, scene-chewing turn as Negan in The Walking Dead. His role was revealed in the first trailer, which you can see above.

Also joining The Boys Season 4 are Valorie Curry as Firecracker and Susan Heyward and Sister Sage.

We also know that The Boys Season 4 will pick up where Gen V Season 1 left off. Those Butcher and Homelander cameos weren’t just for a tease - the story arc involving a superhero virus will crossover to The Boys.

“In our minds, it’s only a couple of days after whatever the events are of Gen V,” said Kripke last month. “So it’s all very modular. It’s like there’s Season 3 of The Boys, and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys Season 4 takes place. And then after that, Gen V Season 2 takes place.”
