Boys Best of the Week: Marion Harding's Cameron Williams claims MOAC boys tennis title

LEXINGTON — Marion Harding's Cameron Williams was the lone champion from Marion County at this year's Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Boys Tennis Tournament at Lakewood Racquet Club.

Williams captured third singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over River Valley's Mason Self in the semifinals and a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ashton Hoffbauer of Shelby in the finals. He made second-team all-league with the title.

Ending as MOAC runners-up were Harding brothers Alexander and Sebastian Lisiecki in first and second singles. Both made first team in the conference.

Alexander defeated RV's Zeke Klenzman 6-0, 6-2 and Shelby's Ty Keinath 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 before falling to Ontario's Pablo Sanchez-Videl 6-1, 6-1. For Sebastian, he beat Galion's Jack Rinehart 6-3, 6-3 and RV's Chase Osborne 6-2, 6-3 before losing to Ontario's Hector Sanchez-Vidal 6-1, 6-2.

In first doubles for Harding, Carter Rawlins and Andres Alehandre-Rojas were fourth, and the second doubles team of Evan Birt and Reagan Tway was third.

Ontario won the team championship with 27 points to edge Shelby's 25 and Harding's 24. RV was fourth followed by Galion, Pleasant and Clear Fork.

Pleasant's Alex Yancy was second-team MOAC after finishing fourth in first singles. Also for Pleasant, Cael Bower was sixth in second singles, Landon Severns third in third singles and Griffin Gleespen and Brady Werling fifth in first doubles.

For RV, Osborne was fourth in second singles and Self third in third singles, while Hayden Campbell and Andrew Karrick were third in first doubles and Jackson McKinniss and Olivia Meddles fourth in second doubles.

In the regular season, Williams was Harding's lone winner in a 4-1 loss to Ontario, while in a 4-1 win over Shelby , the Presidents got wins from all three singles players plus Rosas and Birt in doubles.

Here are some other highlights from around the Marion area over the last week in boys spring sports:

Baseball

● Marion Harding dominated Mansfield Senior with 24 hits in a 25-0 win. Austin Allen was 3-for-3 with six runs, Ray J Scott-Harbolt 4-for-4 with five runs and Nathan Cunningham 3-for-4 with four runs. Justin Long had four hits and three RBIs; Maddox McGuire added three hits, and they got two hits each from Tyson Lind, Connor Pennington and Gavyn Baumgartner.

● In a 14-4 win over Pleasant, Harding got two doubles from Cunningham and three singles from Scott-Harbolt. Baumgartner and Scott-Harbolt teamed for nine strikeouts and six hits allowed on the mound. In a 9-7 win over the Spartans, Scott-Harbolt knocked a pair of three-run home runs, while Cunningham struck out 11 with four hits given up, and Allen earned the save.

● Highland asserted itself atop the MOAC standings with a pair of wins over state-ranked Division II Clear Fork. Zach Church pitched a three-hitter with no earned runs, a walk and nine strikeouts, plus hit a triple for three RBIs in a 7-2 win over the Colts. Jayden Collins doubled. In a 10-1 win where Kort Sears tossed a one-hitter with a walk and eight strikeouts, Gavin Wiggand doubled and singled, and Evan Johnson, Church and Hayden Kline singled twice.

● Highland earned its 12th straight victory with a 7-4 win over Division I's Gahanna Lincoln. Collins scattered seven hits with no walks and Drew Altizer got the save. Jace Brooks singled twice, and Collins doubled.

● Elgin trailed 8-2 in the second inning and 13-9 after six, but rallied for a 16-13 win over North Baltimore. Nash Lust drove in five runs with three singles, while Trey Morgan and Donaven Stith doubled and singled, and Quinten Harrison, Stephen Castillo-Carey and Jacob Isler all singled twice. The Comets saw their hopes for an NWCC title dashed in a 4-3 loss to Hardin Northern. Elgin was down 4-1, but scored twice in the seventh inning and left the tying run on third base. Mitchell Askew gave up six hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts, and Castillo-Carey and Trey Morgan combined for five singles. Isler and Brody Wood singled twice in a 10-0 loss to Dublin Scioto.

● Cardington rolled to a 15-6 win over East Knox when Wyatt Denney homered and singled for four RBIs, Wyatt Wade doubled twice, A.J. Hall doubled and singled twice, Caden Dewitt doubled and singled twice for three runs and Fisher Schuman doubled and singled twice for four RBIs. Wade struck out five and gave up six hits, while James Fiant pitched two perfect innings in relief.

● Cardington's Fiant had three hits, and Wade, Dewitt and Schuman two hits in a 15-9 loss to Danville. In a 9-6 win over Fairbanks, Denney scored three times, while Hall had two singles, and Cameron Haines, McClure and Dewitt all doubled.

● North Union was held to five hits, but still defeated Benjamin Logan 8-7. Tyler Krebehenne struck out nine and walked one in allowing seven hits and four earned runs. The Wildcats had three hits in a 13-0 loss to Kenton Ridge. In a 9-2 win where Mason Bright pitched a three-hitter with five walks and seven strikeouts. Krebehenne had a triple and single and Landon Converse a double.

● The Wildcats nipped Tecumseh 3-2 when they scored all their runs in the top of the seventh. Drew Schmidt had eight strikeouts, two walks and three hits, and Krebehenne had a save for NU. Converse doubled twice, and Bright homered, while Krebehenne and Ashton Haubiel doubled and singled.

● In a 4-0 loss to Centerburg, Northmor's Trevor Brubaker gave up one earned runs with four hits, four walks and 11 strikeouts. Billy Bowlin doubled and singled, and Bentley singled twice. In a 10-0 victory over Crestline, six pitchers teamed for 10 strikeouts, five walks and one hit. Caiden Martinez doubled and singled for three runs scored, and Garrett Harvey doubled and singled, while Bentley singled twice.

● Grant Bentley gave up five hits, two earned runs and two walks with six strikeouts to lift Northmor to a 7-4 win over Centerburg. He doubled and singled, too, while Cole Cuffman tripled and singled, and Jack Bowdre doubled and singled.

● River Valley's Hayden Kanagy hit two doubles among RV's three hits in a 9-3 loss to Galion. The Vikings were limited to four hits in an 11-1 loss to Galion, too. RV bounced back for a 6-2 win over North Union where Leland Doubikin scattered six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. The Vikes scored five times in the top of the seventh to win. Trace Kelly tripled, Kanagy doubled and Hudson Pollock singled twice. For NU, Krebehenne singled two times.

● RV edged Crestview 5-4 when Kelley and Hayden Foltz struck out six, walked three and gave up nine hits as Doubikins doubled and singled twice, Kanagy doubled and singled and Carter Park singled twice. In a 6-0 win over Fredericktown, J.R. Bates pitched a four-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts as Park doubled and singled twice, and pate Crawford and Kanagy doubled.

Track and field

● At the Mount Gilead Invitational, Northmor's Cowin Becker won the 400 meters in 51.23 and the long jump in 21 feet, 5 inches. Other area winners were Mount Gilead's Will Baker (800, 2:01.33), Northmor's Ryan Lehman (3200, 10:10.85), Pleasant's Hudson Warner (110 hurdles, 16.34), MG's Wyatt Mowry (300 hurdles, 41.43), Northmor's Connor Stockdale (high jump, 5-6), Pleasant's Landon O'Donnell (discus, 133-9.5), and MG's Griffin McClelland (shot put, 42-10). Runners-up were MG's Logan High (200, 22.93), Quade Harris (400, 52.15), Tae Davis (110 hurdles, 16.48) and Josh Burnbaugh (high jump, 5-6), Pleasant's Nick Swartz (3200, 10:17.36), Warner (long jump 20-10) and Northmor's Lehman (1600, 4:39.36) and Ethan Amens (300 hurdles, 41.45).

● Marion Harding and Highland competed at the Galion Kiwanis Invitational with 13 teams. Making the top four were Harding's Marquis Long Jr. (third, 400, 52.13) and Alex Stokes (fourth, high jump, 6-0), Highland's Matthew Miller (third, 3200, 10:04.38) and Darren Styer (tied third, pole vault, 11-6) and Ladon Hayes (third, shot put, 48-7).

● At the Gilead Christian meet at Cardington, River Valley's Ben Isler won the pole vault in 10-6 as did teammate Ethan Lyon in the shot put in 57-2.5 and discus in 160-6. RV's Riley Hummel was second in the high jump at 5-2 and long jump at 18-0.5. GC's Joseph Bossard and Elgin's Wingate Carey tied for second at 8-6.

● North Union's Wyatt Davis won the West Liberty-Salem Invitational long jump at 19-7, while Carter Skaggs and Griffin Osborne were runners-up in the 110 hurdles in 15.88 and 100 in 11.38, respectively. Skaggs was third in the 300 hurdles in 42.45, and Braedon Scowden was fourth in the long jump at 18-5.5.

He earned 243 of 502 votes (48 percent) to win it. Other boys nominees were Elgin baseball's Jacob Isler, Marion Harding baseball's Nathan Cunningham, Northmor baseball's Drew Hammond, Pleasant's 4x800-meter relay team and North Union baseball's Tyler Krebehenne.
