Boxer Mix Rejected by Adopters After They Claim to 'See Pit Bull in Him'

It's heartbreaking to see that the stigma against Pit Bulls remains. But a new video showing why a rescue pup didn't get adopted proves it's still all too real.

We really feel for Enzo. The Boxer mix was finally going to get a home when at the last minute things completely fell through.

In a clip shared by the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, it shows the Boxer mix looking so sweet in his enclosure. How could anyone not want this baby?! Sadly the pup was rejected by his almost-owners and their reason why is pretty darn infuriating.

"Enzo is heartbroken," the video's onscreen caption reads. "His adopters met with him twice, signed paperwork, and then rejected him, saying 'I see the Pit Bull in him.'"

The whole thing is ridiculous. Even if Enzo was part Pit Bull, that doesn't mean he'd be aggressive, as some people are inclined to believe.

The comments section was behind the dog all the way. "Pit Bulls are wonderfully loving pups— that family would have been so lucky to have Enzo join them," wrote one commenter. "Poor baby he deserves the best family in the world," another commenter added. "Enzo. I hope you find your forever family and home soon because you deserve it," someone else chimed in. "They didn’t deserve him anyway! I hope Enzo finds his TRUE forever home ASAP!!!" one person exclaimed.

Are Pit Bulls Dangerous?

It's a rumor that doesn't ever seem to die down. Many people all over the United States believe that Pit Bulls are dangerous, but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

In fact, there is no single Pit Bull dog breed. Nope. Pit Bull is an umbrella term for a variety of dogs, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Bully, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Something else to keep in mind is that aggression in dogs is caused by environmental factors — not because of the breed. Because Pit Bulls were used in the past for dog fighting many people mistakenly believe these dogs are primed to fight or are naturally hostile.

In general, Pitties are affectionate, loving, and friendly dogs. Thousands of people adopt Pit Bulls every year and find them to be wonderful pets. There's not really much evidence that Pit Bulls are naturally violent or have behavioral issues.

It's important to do your own research before adopting an animal. If you are curious about a breed or want to know more about the dog you're adopting, reaching out to your local animal rescue or veterinarian will help you clear things up. Here's hoping that Enzo finds his fur-ever home very soon.
