Boston Celtics Reportedly Make Decision On Tacko Fall

Despite his incredible popularity and even more incredible size, 7-foot-5 center Tacko Fall found minutes hard to come by with the Boston Celtics. With NBA free agency just around the corner, the Celtics have made a decision on Fall’s future with the team.

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac and CelticsBlog, the Celtics have not extended a qualifying offer to Fall for the upcoming season. As a result, Fall will become an unrestricted free agent.

Fall appeared in 19 games for the Celtics this past season, but rarely got quality minutes in those games. He finished this past season with a grand total of 47 points, 20 blocks and 52 rebounds.

Fall finishes his Celtics tenure with 70 total points, 24 blocks and 67 rebounds in 169 minutes played. He appeared in 26 total games.

Point guard Tremont Waters was also not extended a qualifying offer.

Born in Senegal, Tacko Fall became a national sensation while he was with the UCF Knights for college. He won numerous conference accolades for his defensive prowess, including the 2017 AAC Defensive Player of the Year award.

His performances against VCU and Duke in the NCAA Tournament propelled him to national stardom. But despite his immense size, he went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Celtics picked Fall up as a free agent and sent him to the G-League for most of his rookie season.

This past year Brad Stevens gave him slightly more minutes, but never really seemed to work Fall into his plans. Once Stevens was promoted to the Celtics front office, Fall’s fate was essentially sealed.
