Boise State cornerback Jaylen Clark was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of committing multiple violent crimes, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

Clark, 21, faces two felonies — attempted strangulation and aggravated assault — and also was arrested on suspicion of battery and false imprisonment, both misdemeanors, according to the Ada County Jail website that tracks arrests and inmates.

Clark was booked into the jail Wednesday and was still in custody Thursday morning on $50,000 bail. He has an arraignment hearing in Ada County court scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 25.

According to a spokesperson for the Boise Police Department, Clark’s arrest stemmed from a domestic battery investigation that was initiated Dec. 17 — one day after the Boise State football team lost to UCLA in the LA Bowl. A warrant was issued for Clark’s arrest.

According to police: Clark became physically violent with a woman and tried to strangle her following a verbal altercation on July 28, 2023. The woman tried to leave the residence several times, but was stopped by Clark, who eventually grabbed a knife and chased her around the residence. Clark left the residence after the altercation, and the woman was able to leave at that time.

The alleged altercation took place at a private residence, not on Boise State’s campus, according to Boise police. A no-contact order has been issued, barring Clark from having any further contact with the woman, according to court records.

Boise State has suspended Clark indefinitely and issued the following statement on Wednesday:

“Boise State is aware of the situation and Jaylen Clark has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities as we follow department, university and Title IX policies.”

Clark started 13 games for the Broncos last season, finishing with 54 tackles and an interception.
