It might not seem possible, but Homecoming Weekend is just a few short weeks away. The weekend of Oct. 7-9 will connect current Boise State students with alumni on campus, as they celebrate the heritage of the university and cheer on the Broncos football team.

If you’re an alumnus planning to return to Boise for the first time in awhile, you probably have some questions about what campus life is like. We’re here to give you a guide to make the most out of your visit and make Homecoming 2022 a weekend you’ll never forget.

Who is Boise State playing in the Homecoming game?

The Broncos football team will take on Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Broncos are coming off a season in which they finished above .500 with an overall record of 7-5, while going 5-3 in Mountain West Conference play. They’ll clash with the Bulldogs, who had an impressive 10-3 (6-2 conference play) season in 2021. But Fresno State will be out for revenge this year, as the Broncos handed them a 40-14 defeat last season.

Where should I stay during Homecoming weekend?

Boise State University has compiled a list of hotels within 3 miles of campus that is a great place to start when searching for lodging. The Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau also has an extensive collection of hotel options available to peruse. If you’re looking more along the lines of a vacation rental home, both Vrbo and Airbnb have homes and apartments available.

What should I eat while I’m in Boise?

Boise was recently named one of “America’s Next Great Food Cities” by Food & Wine, so there is definitely a lot to check out. One restaurant you don’t want to miss is Kin, which is run by award-winning chef Kris Komori. Komori’s creativity in the kitchen “is one of the many reasons to be optimistic about Boise’s culinary future,” writes Michael Deeds.

There are other exciting names in Boise’s food scene that should definitely be on the radar when you’re in town. Try something new at Nahm Thai & Burmese Cuisine, which opened earlier this year and has been getting rave reviews online. “We’ve been here three times and gotten different entrees and appetizers each time,” wrote one Yelper, “and I have been blown away EVERY TIME.”

You can also chow down on a sandwich from Michael Large’s Queens Trailer parked outside Payette Brewing Co. Large is known to many as the former chef from Chandlers, where he provided customers with some of the best fine dining in Boise. Now, he’s slinging “consistent, upscale taproom cuisine” at one of the largest breweries in Boise.

If you’re looking to save a little money while dining out, we’ve got you covered on that front, too. Earlier this year, Shaun Goodwin compiled a list of 20 Boise restaurants with meals for $10 or less. How do some crab stuffed piquillo pepper tapas or basque meatballs sound?

Drinking in Boise? Here’s what to know

There are a plethora of bars to grab a drink at in Treasure Valley -- but which ones should you choose? Michael Deeds broke down how local watering holes are breaking records, and listed to top 10 Boise bars by bottle sales and dollars spent. We’ve also got a list of 5 great margaritas to drink in Boise that you won’t want to miss.

If you’re looking for a craft beer, well, you’ve come to the right place. Idaho breweries took home 30 medals, including eight golds, at this year’s NABA International Beer Awards. There are two gold medalists in Boise alone from Sockeye Brewing and Payette Brewing. But Boise Brewing, Edge Brewing Co. and Spring Hill Brewing also brought home hardware at the awards.
