Bob Woodward is coming to Tacoma 50 years after Watergate. You can hear him speak

Lisa Berg

It’s been half a century since Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein tied a political office burglary to the White House, eventually leading to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Woodward turned those intervening 50 years into a multiple Pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalism career. His latest audiobook, “The Trump Tapes,” came out this week.

On Nov. 13, Woodward will reflect on the notorious scandal that rocked the nation in the early 1970s and the intervening years covering Washington D.C.’s highest power circles in a speech at Tacoma’s Pantages Theater.

Woodward was a green reporter in 1971 when he started working at The Washington Post. He still works there as an associate editor.

Woodward has had a front row seat to history covering 10 presidents since Nixon. He’s written 21 bestselling books. His recent book, “Peril,” covered the presidential transition of power between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

In late 2020, Woodward was criticized for not revealing earlier statements Trump made to Woodward about the coronavirus pandemic. As early as February 2020, Trump said he knew the virus was a serious threat to public health but chose instead to downplay it to the American public. Woodward withheld that information for months before publishing it in his book “Rage”.

Woodward is known for unvarnished critiques of the news media during his speeches.
