Athenian Bob Ambrose Jr. will have a book signing for his new book of poetry from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Alps Road Presbyterian Church.

“Between Birdsong and Boulder – Poems of Life of Gaia,” was recently published. Ambrose is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a retired environmental engineer with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Ambrose will read from a selection of eight poems, followed by a question and answer session and the book signing.

“This collection of poems covers the science-based story of the cosmos in lyric form. Evoking the rhythms of scripture, the poems express a sense of wonder at the enormity of it all … yet find a quiet comfort and belonging in our niche between the ephemeral and the everlasting – between birdsong and boulder,” according to a description of the poems.

Bernard C. Patten, a professor emeritus at the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology said in a review, "This is a gentle work, deeply engaging, puzzling, beautiful and somehow monumental."

Several years ago, Ambrose also published a book of poetry, “Journey to Embarkation.”
