Bloomington North's Robbennolt leads Herald-Times All-Area girls basketball team
Over the course of 95 games, Mia Robbennolt, the Bloomington North girls' basketball program grew as she did.
From 6-17 to a 19-game winner this season, Robbennolt played a huge part in all of it, piling up points, rebounds, steals, assists, wins and a legacy the Cougars' freshmen will have a chance to build upon after she heads to Division II Thomas More in Kentucky.
As a senior, she put everything on her shoulders she could handle as North won its first Conference Indiana title since 2010. When her moment came to grab a share of that title in a tough game against Columbus North, she answered with a resounding 23-point, seven-rebound performance.
"She's been a solid player all four years," North coach Kiley Jarrett said. "But this year, she stepped up and put it in another gear. She was a huge part of why we had so much success.
"She's got great things ahead of her at Thomas More. I'm very fortunate to have coached her this year."
She saw a player who believed in herself and her ability to lead. Robbenolt leaves with some impressive career numbers: 1,229 points, 581 boards, 189 assists 149 steals.
"I think once she really figured out she was a dominating, dynamic player, once she believed that, you could definitely see a change in her game," Jarrett said. "She just played at a completely different level of confidence when she finally got her feet underneath her.
"It's always tough going from volleyball to basketball with very little rest, but as a dual-sport athlete, she was one of the best."
Robbennolt could do it all
The versatile, agile 6-footer was equally home in the lane and at the arc, shooting an outstanding 45% from the field not matter where she was standing, which made her a tough guard most nights.
"Her 3-point shooting really made her such a threat to be able to get to the basket," Jarrett said. "Her length challenged defenders and her being able to draw them out knock down 3s was her biggest improvement this year."
Ditto on the other end, where she could guard any of the five spots and maintained a 5+ per game rebound average all four years. She also blocked 21 shots this season.
"She could really challenge everyone's shot at the rim," Jarrett said. "That comes with being long and athletic."

Robbennolt also became one of North's most vocal leaders this season, with just the right amount of competitiveness and positivity.
"That's who she is," Jarrett said. "That's exactly what you want in a competitor. I think she was the glue to our team. She modeled who we are in bringing the underclassmen and upperclassmen together. That hadn't always been the best in the past.
"She was able to mold things into a great team. She didn't care if you were a freshman or senior, she made sure she was including everyone. And her work ethic and the way she carried herself off the floor, you can't help but love her and hope that everyone is looking up to her."
