Bloody scissors found at South Amboy murder scene, affidavit says

SOUTH AMBOY – When city police arrived at a George Street apartment early Thursday morning, they found blood in the bedroom, along the wall in the stairwell, on the door and the wall leading to the kitchen, as well as a bloody knife and scissors, according to court documents.

And in the bedroom, they found an Edison man with a stab wound to his right calf and so much blood loss he died at the scene, court documents say.

Anneris Deleon, 41, of South Amboy, has been charged with the murder of Anthony Patterson, 32, of Edison, whom she had dated. Deleon also was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Deleon told police the two had been fighting. She was found with blood on her hands, clothing and shoes, according to court documents.

Around 1:12 a.m. April 11, South Amboy police received a 911 call from a neighbor who reported Deleon was knocking on her window asking her to call 911. When officers arrived at Deleon's home, they found Patterson in a pool of blood with a stab wound to his right leg calf area and he was later pronounced dead at the scene, court documents say.

A further investigation revealed South Amboy police had received a call about a welfare check at Deleon's home around 9:29 p.m. in which the caller expressed concern that Deleon's former partner was seen around her home and her family couldn't reach her, court documents say.

When police arrived at her home and spoke with Deleon, she said everything was fine and that Patterson was no threat to her. While talking to police, Deleon explained she could not call her family because her cellphone was dead and she didn't have a charger, but an iPhone charger was later found in the bedroom near Patterson, according to court documents.

Police found a heavy amount of blood and a pair of bloody scissors while processing the scene, and a handle and bloody knife blade also were found in the bedroom, as well as blood on two walls in the home and a door. The packaging for the scissors was found in an open kitchen drawer, court document say.

Video from the officer's bodycam showed when police arrived, Deleon said, "we were fighting" and that Patterson was drunk. She also said they had been arguing and he arrived earlier and refused to leave, according to court documents.

"Furthermore the defendant mentioned the use of scissors but couldn't remember who had them, However, she confirmed that he didn't have them. The defendant had blood on her hands, clothing and shoes," court documents say.

Police spoke to the witness who called 911 and reported hearing a male voice outside the apartment around 10:30 p.m. shouting about a phone.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call South Amboy Detective John Cooney at 732-721-0111 or Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Detective Jose Rosario at 732-745-3289.
