Blake Bortles Out In New Orleans: NFL World Reacts
After spending the end of last season with the New Orleans Saints and signing a futures deal with the team earlier this offseason, Blake Bortles has asked for his release.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bortles is looking for another backup opportunity after the Saints signed veteran Andy Dalton. With Dalton supporting starter Jameis Winston, there’s no real room for Bortles in New Orleans.
A former first-round pick, Bortles is just 29 years old, so he’ll likely find a place somewhere in the NFL. However, considering he hasn’t played in a game since 2019 and started one since 2018, Bortles is going to have to be realistic about his next opportunity.
NFL analysts have already begun speculating about where that might be.
He'll probably beat Drew Lock out for Seattle's starting job in Week 8, so there's that in his future. https://t.co/YoU81EDmqU

Former Broncos practice-squad QB Blake Bortles is on the market. Bortles’ career stops include a pair of stints w/ current Broncos HC Nathaniel Hackett as a JAX starter & a brief 2021 practice-squad stint in GB. But DEN signed Josh Johnson to compete for the No. 2 spot in March. https://t.co/50tah5Ft8h

In five seasons as the primary starter in Jacksonville from 2014-18, Bortles threw for 17,646 yards, 103 touchdowns and 75 interceptions in 78 games. He was the Jaguars’ QB when the team advanced to the 2018 AFC Championship Game, where they fell to the New England Patriots.
Bortles last played in the NFL with the Rams three years ago, when he completed 1-of-2 passes for three yards in three appearances as a backup.
