The Black Whale opens its newly renovated patio. Here's what's new.

NEW BEDFORD -- The Black Whale has officially opened their newly renovated outdoor patio.

The addition of the patio, which opened softly on April 11, has been an anticipated project for the restaurant, as it aims to elevate the three pillars of their business: food, service and ambiance.

"Our personal standards and the ambience of the inside should also be reflected in the outdoor area," said William Silverstein, the general manager, in a previous Standard-Times interview.

One of the main features of the updated patio is the permanently installed retractable awning. This modern and sleek addition not only enhances the overall look of the area but also provides a functional purpose.

Furthermore, The Black Whale has also added multiple heating systems to the patio, making it possible for guests to dine comfortably for most of the year. The outdoor dining experience at The Black Whale promises to be a cozy and enjoyable one.

"In the past, when the weather was windy and guests were seated outside, there was nothing we could do to make them more comfortable. But now, with multiple heating systems, we can ensure that our guests will be fully comfortable regardless of the weather conditions," said Silverstein.

To fully enclose the patio area, the renovations also included closing off a 12 to 15 foot gap on the left-hand side of the patio and adding another awning roll-down side.

Originally planned to be completed in one stage, the project was divided into two phases due to timing constraints. The first stage focused on the bar area, which was completed last year. The final stage, which involved renovating the entire patio area, was recently completed, giving the patio a complete makeover in line with the original vision.

"We're excited to see the impact our renovated patio will have on our business, and we can't wait for our guests to experience it together," Silverstein added.
