Black River track and field athlete Braylon Oneal voted Ashland County Athlete of the Week

Black River track and field athlete Braylon Oneal was voted as Ashland County's Athlete of the Week for May 13-May 18.

The voting took place online from 10 a.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Track and field: Mapleton, Black River churn out multiple regional qualifiers at district track meet

Oneal earned 52.2 percent of the votes (355 votes), while Mapleton track and field athlete Scotty Hickey finished second with 38.1 percent (259 votes) and Ashland baseball player Luke Bryant placed third with 9.5 percent (65 votes).

Last Friday, Oneal won the 300 hurdles (39.96) and finished second (15.54) in the 110 hurdles at the Division III district track meet at Norwayne High School to advance to the regional meet. Oneal also ran the first leg of the Pirates' 4x100 relay team that won the district title, while setting the school and district meet record with a time of 43.29.

The voting polls for next week's Athlete of the Week candidates will be open at 10 a.m. Monday.
