'Black Mirror' Will Return to the USS Callister in Season 7
This isn't a drill—or some messed-up, sci-fi fever dream—Netflix just renewed Black Mirror for a seventh season. If that's not enough good news for you on this fine Friday, we’re returning to the USS Callister.
The streamer announced the news this week at this year's "Next on Netflix" event at Picturehouse Central Cinema in London. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix shared a brief preview of their upcoming shows and films, which included a teaser for Black Mirror. The message was characteristically cryptic: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”
I don’t know about you, but I'm ready to return to the world of the standout episode.“USS Callister” is season 4's first episode, which proved to be a fan-favorite that ended with (I'll spare you the details in case you haven't watched) a chilling cliffhanger. In the episode, Jesse Plemons stars as a gaming executive. By day, he works as a programmer, but by night, he retreats to a Star Trek-inspired universe. His crew includes digital clones of his coworkers, which he created with their DNA. One evening, a new player, Nannette Cole, joins the team—but instead of falling in line, she encourages the other players to turn against him. The popular episode also stars Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, and Michaela Coel. Let's hope some of the original crew will return for the sequel.
Aside from the teaser, Netflix hasn't released more information about Black Mirror’s return. However, based on previous seasons, we can expect another batch of twisted, Charlie Booker-written stories. As for the release date? It’ll be sometime in 2025.
