Black History Month starts today in Pierce County with events, activities for all ages

Wednesday marks the start of Black History Month across the country. It’s a time to recognize the achievements made by African Americans in the United States. Multiple events are being held in Pierce County to mark its 28 days.

The Tacoma Public Library system has events scheduled nearly every day in February, ranging from book readings to movie screenings. Metro Parks Tacoma is celebrating the month with a variety of events at People’s Community Center, including a Hilltop Healthy Kids and Family Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Year round, Black history can be explored at Tacoma’s Buffalo Soldier Museum and online at the Washington State History Museum’s Martin Luther King, Jr. interactive exhibit.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, Pierce Transit is offering free bus rides all day for Transit Equity Day.
