Billy Ray Cyrus Releases 'True and Honest' Single 'You Came Along': 'This Song Is Everything I Am' (Exclusive)

"This song is everything I am as a singer/ songwriter/ producer/ musician," the country singer tells PEOPLE of his new track

Billy Ray Cyrus is embracing the truest love he’s ever known on his new single, “You Came Along.”

The country star, 62, returns with his latest heartfelt offering after releasing his last collaboration with his wife, Firerose, in March. PEOPLE can exclusively premiere the sincere new song, co-written and produced by Cyrus, Sean Kelly and Burleigh Clyde Johnson.

The acoustic guitar strums on “You Came Along” back the emotionally charged lyrics that find Cyrus feeling utterly grateful for the loved one who came into his life and stole his heart “so completely.”

He sings, “Must have been fate, you were there / I never planned to be anywhere / I was alone, needed no one / Faced myself, each sad end sung / That I'd change forevermore / There's only one that I adore.”

The Change My Mind artist then launches into a loving chorus dedicated to the one he adores, as he sweetly sings, “A place I never knew / How could I deal the day I met you? / You came along / Now I know the love is real / I love you now and always will.”

The crux of the track speaks not only to Cyrus’ warm, hearty sentiments but also to his artistry as a whole. “This song is everything I am as a singer/ songwriter/ producer/ musician,” he tells PEOPLE. “All my roots, all my influences encompassed in this song.”

“Lyrically and musically, I’ve always worn my emotions wide open on my sleeve,” he continues of the passionate single. “No rules. No limits. No preconceived notions. Just music that I enjoy making that is true and honest to my life and my soul. That’s what 'You Came Along' is - a guy from Kentucky that loves all styles of music just being real.”

The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer also shared some wise words from the late rockabilly pioneer Carl Perkins that he tries to spread to his music peers as well. “Like Carl Perkins said to me, and what I try to express to others in my field that ask for advice: 'Don’t try and think inside the box,’” Cyrus adds. “‘Don’t try and think outside the box. THINK LIKE THERE IS NO BOX.’”

“You Came Along” arrives after Cyrus joined forces with Firerose again to release their meaningful duet “After the Storm.” It marked the fourth official collaborative single from the married couple — who began dating in 2022 and tied the knot in October 2023 — following 2021’s “New Day,” 2022’s “Time” and 2023’s “Plans.”

Previously speaking to PEOPLE about the track, Cyrus said, "It’s one of the most prolific songs I have ever been a part of.” He added, “I hope it does for your spirit what it has done for mine.”
