Bill Shaw fund: Children in Fayetteville and beyond deserve the magic of Christmas morning

Seeing your child's face light up with joy on Christmas morning is one of the best gifts a parent will ever receive.

It was for me, at least.

My daughter is all grown up now, but I'm thankful that I was able to provide her with childhood Christmases she'll always remember. As a single mom, it wasn't always easy; I'm fortunate that I had my parents and other family members to help me during tougher years.

Not everyone has a support system that's able to help fill in the gaps, though. This is where the Bill Shaw Salvation Army Christmas Fund comes in.

The fund, powered by donations, does so much to make every child's Christmas wishes a reality during the holiday season. The fund also helps the Salvation Army cover its operations for the rest of the year in the form of food, shelter and education.

It's the generosity of people in this community that makes it all possible.

$1,000 club members

Joining our elite $1,000 club today with a $2,000 donation are Hutton and Sibylle Barron.

The Caroline & Salim Ibrahim Charitable Fund gave $1,000 in memory of William Strickland. Betty and Richard Rice also gave $1,000, as did Martha Walker, Eva Herring and Clayton Searle.

Thanks to all of you for your generosity — we couldn't do it without you. There's still a long way to go, though, to meet the needs of our community.
