TCU football coach Sonny Dykes has been married to his wife, Kate, for 17 years.

He said on Sunday that the couple have had three disagreements during their relationship.

No, not about their three kids.

No, not about his numerous coaching moves (he’s on his 14th stop as a football coach).

No, not even about football.

Basketball. Yep, the classic Kobe Bryant or Shaquille O’Neal debate surfaced in the Dykes household. Which Laker legend was better?

“We’ve had three disagreements in our marriage in 17 years, “ Dykes said. “One of them was about Shaq and Kobe. I’m a Shaq guy and she’s a Kobe girl. That was probably about as an eventful argument we’ve had in our marriage.

“So, I’m a Shaq dude through-and-through. Always have been. He’s (Shaq) is a Texas guy, too.”

Georgia coach Kirby Smart joked that he was impressed Dykes has only had three arguments with his wife.

“I’m more impressed you’ve only had three arguments with your wife in 17 years,” he said. “I’m still trying to conquer that.”

The comments were made on Sunday morning when the two coaches were meeting with the media the day before their national championship game. Dykes’ Horned Frogs and Smart’s Bulldogs meet at SoFi Stadium on Monday.
