Big swings and big wins: Vote for the Jackson area girls athlete of the week for April 29-May 4

TSSAA district playoffs are in full swing in the Jackson area.

As some district championships have already been decided, some have to crown a champion.

Teams advancing to the championship game in Division I districts move on to the regional tournaments next week. In Division II-A, the regional tournament continues this week and will be decided by Wednesday.

Now, it’s time to look back at last week for the Jackson area athlete of the week.

Congratulations to last week’s winner Scotts Hill softball’s Katie Harper, who earned 2,866 of 9,195 votes (31.2%).

Fans are able to vote once per hour, and the poll closes at 5 p.m., Thursday.

Here are this week’s nominees for the Jackson area athlete of the week.

Landon Hagan, Bradford baseball: Hagan drove in three runs on three hits in the Red Devils’ 11-1 win over Clarksburg on Tuesday.

Konner Comuzie, Camden baseball: Comuzie hit a grand slam and totaled six RBIs in the Lions’ 12-7 win over Stewart County and had three more RBIs in a close loss to Huntingdon on Saturday.

Brooks Johnson, Chester County baseball: Johnson totaled six RBIs split between two games and hit a two-run home run in Wednesday’s win over South Side.

Graydon Wall, Clarksburg baseball: Wall had five hits, including a double, with two RBIs and picked up the win on the mound in a 19-9 victory over Humboldt. He had five strikeouts in two innings.

Cameron Schlicht, Dresden baseball: Schlicht drove in three runs on three hits in the Lions’ 10-0 win over South Fulton on Wednesday then racked up seven strikeouts in an extra-inning victory over Union City on Friday.

Trey Tarkington, Dyer County baseball: Tarkington struck out 10 batters to help lift Dyer County to a 5-4 win over Dyersburg on Thursday.

Cohen Tuten, Hardin County baseball: Tuten drove in all three runs for a 3-2 win over Lexington on Wednesday and totaled five RBIs for the week.

Jonah Wilson, Hardin County soccer: Wilson made six saves in a shutout win for the Tigers over Scotts Hill.

Kevion Woodland, Haywood baseball: Woodland had three RBIs in the Tomcats’ 13-8 win over Fayette Ware on Thursday as the Tomcats finished runner up in the District 14-3A title game.y

Braylon Rich, Huntingdon baseball: Rich had a walk-off double for the Mustangs to beat Camden, 8-7, on Saturday to complete a three-RBI game and total four for the week.

Tate Surber, McKenzie baseball: Surber struck out 18 batters in a complete game to lift the Rebels to an 8-0 win over McEwen to claim the District 13-1A championship. Surber was named the tournament MVP.

Camden Eason, Riverside baseball: Eason totaled six RBIs, including a two-run home run against Adamsville on Wednesday, to earn two wins over the Cardinals and a berth in the District 13-2A title game.

Jackson Crider, Scotts Hill baseball: Crider totaled four RBIs for the Lions from the leadoff spot in wins over Madison on Wednesday and Riverside on Thursday.

Dylan Bynum, South Fulton baseball: Bynum totaled seven RBIs in five games, including four against Gleason on Saturday.

Trent Stewart, South Side baseball: Stewart hit a walk-off single to life the Hawks to a 5-4 win over McNairy Central on Tuesday. He later threw a complete game, striking out seven, in an 11-1 win over North Side on Thursday.

Kyler Southwind, Union City baseball: Southwind totaled four hits and four RBIs in two wins for the Golden Tornadoes.

Cole McMinn, West Carroll baseball: McMinn struck out 11 batters in the War Eagles’ 10-0 win over Middleton on Tuesday.

Brady Gardner, Westview baseball: Gardner struck out 11 batters in the Chargers 5-1 win over Ripley on Friday.

Katie Lax, Bolivar softball: Lax totaled five RBIs with two hits, including a triple, in the Tigers’ 15-13 win over Madison on Tuesday.

Addison Hampton, Bruceton softball: Hampton struck out 11 batters in a 4-0 win over Scotts Hill on Thursday.

Madison Oatsvall, Camden softball: Oatsvall hit a three-run triple in the Lions’ 11-2 win over Milan on Tuesday.

Lynden Cole, Crockett County softball: Cole hit two home runs and totaled three RBIs for the Cavaliers last week.

Eva Stafford, Dresden softball: Stafford threw a three-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts while totaling three RBIs in the Lions’ 15-0 win over Peabody on Tuesday.

Averie Parnell, Haywood softball: Parnell had four hits, including a double and a triple, and two RBIs in the Tomcats’ wild, 22-12, win over Fayette Ware.

Natalie Kreuziger, Huntingdon softball: Kreuziger totaled 22 strikeouts in two starts, including 12 in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Union City.

Carley Holt, Jackson Christian softball: While their season came to an end last week, Holt hit a pair of home runs to total seven RBIs in the Eagles’ regional tournament run.

Kailyn Melton, Lexington softball: Melton totaled 20 strikeouts in three starts, including 10 strikeouts in Wednesday’s win over North Side.

Greene-Leigh Crowder, Ripley softball: Crowder totaled nine RBIs for two wins against Peabody, including a grand slam and five RBIs in Saturday’s 14-4 win over the Golden Tide

Sydney Montgomery, Riverside softball: Montgomery drove in three runs on three hits, including a triple, in the Panthers’ 6-1 win over Wayne County.

Maddie Gray, South Fulton softball: Gray totaled four RBIs, including a three-run home run, in wins over Gleason and Carlisle County.

Brooklyn Davidson, South Gibson softball: Davidson hit three home runs and totaled six RBIs to put the Hornets in the District 13-3A title game.

Kristian Holder, South Side softball: Holder totaled six RBIs with a home run and two doubles in two wins while picking up both wins in the circle.

Taylar Shands, USJ softball: Shands hit two home runs and totaled six RBIs in two regional tournament wins for the Bruins.

McCall Sims, Westview softball: Sims threw a 5-inning no-hitter against Ripley on Tuesday, a one-hitter on Saturday against Gibson County and totaled 38 strikeout in three starts. She also had four RBIs, five hits and two doubles.
