‘Big Sky’ Renewed for Season 2 at ABC

“Big Sky” has been renewed for Season 2 at ABC.

In addition, series executive producer Elwood Reid will take over as showrunner for Season 2. His past credits include “The Chi,” “The Bridge,” “Hawaii Five-O,” and “Barkskins.” He takes over running the show from series creator and executive producer David E. Kelley. Season 1 is still currently airing, with the finale set for May 18.

“Big Sky” is based on “The Highway” books by C.J. Box. It stars Katheryn Winnick as Jenny Hoyt and Kylie Bunbury as Cassie Dewell. In the series, the pair must team up to search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. But when they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken.

Season 1 also stars Brian Geraghty as Ronald Pergman, Dedee Pfeiffer as Denise Brisbane, Natalie Alyn Lind as Danielle Sullivan, Jesse James Keitel as Jerrie, with John Carroll Lynch as Rick Legarski, and Ryan Phillippe as Cody Hoyt.

Kelley created the series and serves as executive producer along with Reid and Ross Fineman. 20th Television produces in association with A+E Studios. Reid is repped by TFC Management, WME and David Colden.

News of the “Big Sky” renewal comes shortly after ABC also announced a renewal for the medical drama “The Good Doctor” starring Freddie Highmore. Given the lingering effects of the pandemic on pilot season, Variety previously reported that broadcasters like ABC are largely expected to renew the majority of their current lineups rather than pick up new shows. Other ABC dramas expected to return are “A Million Little Things,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Rebel,” “Station 19,” and “The Rookie.”
