Bicyclist struck and killed by vehicle north of Los Banos, CHP says

A cyclist is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Henry Miller Avenue just north of Los Banos, according to California Highway Patrol.

At 7:19 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to the area of Henry Miller Avenue east of Johnson Road, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

The CHP said that according to a preliminary investigation, it appears a woman believed to be about 19-years-old was riding a bicycle and traveling west in the westbound lane of Henry Miller Avenue east of Johnson Road, in the dark without lighting or reflectors.

The rear of the bicycle was struck by the front of a 2009 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Henry Miller Avenue at about 55 mph driven by 42-year-old Maria Hinojosa, of Los Banos.

According to the CHP, the collision caused the cyclist to land on the hood of the Nissan and strike the windshield. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said neither Hinojosa or her 46-year-old male passenger were injured in the collision.

According to the CHP, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
