Bicyclist killed in crash near Los Banos identified as 20-year-old Sonora woman

The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a bicyclist struck and killed by a vehicle north of Los Banos as 20-year-old Charissa Williams of Sonora, according to Deputy Alexandra Britton.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the collision at about 7:19 p.m Wednesday, in the area of Henry Miller Avenue and Johnson Road.

According to the CHP, it appears Williams was riding a bicycle west, in the westbound lane of Henry Miller Avenue east of Johnson Road in the dark without lighting or reflectors.

A 2009 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Henry Miller Avenue driven by a 42-year-old Los Banos woman struck the rear of the bicycle.

The collision caused Williams to land on the hood of the vehicle and strike the windshield, according to the CHP. Williams was pronounced dead a the scene.
