A 32-year-old man is being remembered by co-workers after he was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on Bullard Avenue last week.

Josh Brown was hit from behind by a truck while riding east on Bullard Avenue around 6:45 a.m. Thursday. He was taken to the hospital and initially said to be in critical condition, though police later that morning confirmed he had died.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office confirmed Brown’s identity on Monday.

In a post on Instagram, Tommy Chavez, the executive chef at 13 Prime Steak, said Brown road his bike to work, rain or shine and would “show up on time” and “never called out” in the four years he worked at the restaurant.

The restaurant is planning something to remember Brown, and a GoFundMe has been created to help his family cover funeral and memorial expenses.

The GoFundMe page describes Brown as dedicated employee who was also a “kind, loving, and caring friend.”

“Josh cared so much about his workplace and job, but most importantly, he cared about all of his coworkers. He treated everyone as a brother or sister. We weren’t just co-workers to him, we were his family, and he was our family.

“Josh Brown is the kind of friend that everyone needs in life.”

House of Pendragon also put out a remembrance for Brown, who was a patron of the Sanger brewery, before helping run the kitchen and its now-closed downtown Fresno restaurant.

“You were taken way too soon JB, you will be missed and remembered by all of us at HoP,” the brewery wrote in a post on Facebook.

“Please watch out for cyclists and everyone else while driving.”

The latest bicyclist death in Fresno

Fresno, which just this year was named one of the deadliest cities in the U.S. for pedestrians, has had anywhere from three to six cyclist fatalities each year since 2018.

Brown’s was the second death just this month.

Adela Santana-Mullooly, a 51-year-old anthropology lecturer at Fresno State was killed Oct. 3 in a collision on Watts Valley Road east of Pittman Hill Road. In that incident, the driver crossed into the westbound lane as he made a right-hand turn, the CHP said.

The car struck Santana-Mullooly’s bike head-on.
