Beyond Meat chief operating officer Doug Ramsey, who was recently accused of biting a man’s nose during an altercation, has stepped down less than a year after taking over the reins of the popular meat alternative brand.

Ramsey was charged in September with making a terroristic threat outside of a University of Arkansas football game’s parking garage.

Although Beyond Meat spokesperson Shira Zackai announced the executive’s suspension on Sept. 20, a Friday regulatory filing noted that his last day with the company was effective Oct. 14. Ramsey joined the company in December.

The same filing revealed that 200 employees were laid off this week — representing approximately 19% of the market leader’s total global workforce.

“This decision was based on cost-reduction initiatives intended to reduce operating expenses, sharpen the company’s focus on a set of key growth priorities, and target cash flow positive operations within the second half of 2023,” Beyond Meat said in the filing.

Ramsey, previously a 30-year-veteran for Tyson Foods, faces charges of third-degree battery and terroristic threatening after becoming enraged by another driver who cut in front of his Ford Bronco SUV in a traffic lane following an Arkansas Razorbacks and Missouri State Bears college football game.

According to a police report cited by KNWA, Ramsey apparently got out of his car and punched in the back window of the other driver’s Subaru before pulling him close to punch him.

The 53-year-old executive also reportedly bit the tip of the other driver’s nose, ripping the flesh.

Ramsey, who was also charged with third-degree battery, was released on an $11,000 bond the following day and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 14.
