The Best 'Ted Lasso' Series Finale Fan TheoriesColin Hutton - Apple

In the most recent Ted Lasso episode, it's revealed that AFC Richmond has won 15 games in a row. Make that 16, once you add Jamie Tartt's takedown of Man City. It's a feat that should have been impossible for the UK soccer team, but college football coach Ted Lasso has made a career here out of doing the impossible. On the drawing board this episode are plays with titles such as "upside down taxi," "la cucaracha," and "Loki's toboggan." Either he's learning soccer and soccer is a lot weirder than I thought, or he's a miracle worker. But his tenure on television as the most polite man in the world will come to an end next Wednesday, May 31—prompting fans to wonder just how Jason Sudeikis and co. will wrap up their popular comedy drama.

As Ted's mom mentions in the penultimate installment, her son has helped everyone here—but who will help Ted? The man practically left his son to take this job, and he's stayed no matter what obstacle was thrown his way. Is Ted destined to be the head coach forever? Is a mediocre team like AFC Richmond about to really win the championship with plays like "upside down taxi" and group rom-com movie days? To find out, we turned to the fans on Reddit who love Ted Lasso more than anything to collect their best guesses.

Ted and Rebecca Become a Thing

Most of Season Two was consumed by a romance between Rebecca and Sam that sort of came out of nowhere. Ted Lasso has kept the audience guessing about Rebecca's romantic future ever since they called it quits, even hinting during rom-com night with the team that Sam is still thinking about her. But more than a reunion, fans ship Ted and Rebecca getting together. "Ted and Rebecca is going to happen," according to Reddit user u/onekrazykat. "Sorry people who don’t like this. But the more I re-watch, the more I think it’s end-game for the series." A re-watch? That's dedication.

Nate Back at Richmond?

Nate quit coaching Manchester a little earlier into Season Three than expected, leaving Ted and the team without a well-rounded antagonist (outside of Rupert). Still, it seems like Nate returning to possibly even be the head coach at AFC Richmond would be the perfect ending. "Ted will decide to move back to the states," u/brightside1982 theorized. "With the head coach vacancy open, and Nate on the market, Nate will end the show running his first practice with AFC Richmond."

Sounds nice, but some fans believe otherwise. "I don't think Nate will coach at Richmond," Reddit commenter u/jadethebard wrote. He's been offered a gig by the team, but will he show up in the finale? "I think he'll find an entirely different line of work, maybe music, maybe something new. And I think he'll tell Ted his story before the end." Whatever end lies in Nate's future, at least we all want the former kit man to find some peace.

Roy and Keeley Get Back Together

When Roy broke up with Keeley at the beginning of Season Three, it felt very abrupt. Obviously, the show thought fans needed more of a will-they-won't-they from the most popular couple on the show—but we didn't really, especially for just a three season arc. "He left rather then choosing to stick it out and just enjoy the course of their relationship for however long it might have lasted and I think at some point we will see him confront her with this," Reddit user u/QuiJon70 hoped. "I just hope she responds well to it and they get back together. They are really the healthiest couple on the show, I would like to see them work." So would I, u/QuiJon70. So would I.

Ted Finally Chooses Ted

After making everyone else's life better by showing up with a smile and some cookies every day, is it finally time for Ted to find happiness? And, you know, what about the son he sort of just abandoned? Well, soccer fans may have found a solution. "Apple now has the rights to show all MLS matches for ten years around the world and we know they aren’t shy about cross-promotion," u/LightningVole theorized. "Ted loves his son and misses being a more active parent. Henry lives in Kansas City, which is home to Sporting KC, one of the original MLS teams. My guess is that the season ends with Ted taking a job back in Kansas City with Sporting KC."

These guys don't need Ted anymore. They'll have Nate, Roy, and maybe even Jamie. We couldn't have gotten any larger of a hint here than when "Home" from The Wiz plays this episode after the cliffhanger that Ted has a "truth bomb" to drop to Rebecca. It's time for Ted Lasso to help Ted Lasso.
