A South Carolina seafood spot is serving the best sandwiches in the state, new rankings show.

167 Raw Oyster Bar in Charleston was named the Palmetto State’s top place to get a sandwich. While the restaurant’s name pays tribute to its raw bar, other dishes such as po’boys and lobster rolls have made it onto the menu.

The business earned the No. 1 spot after the restaurant review website Yelp studied restaurants that had several sandwich-related reviews. The website “then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning ‘sandwich’” over time, according to a report published Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Though the results were released during National Sandwich Month, fans of 167 Raw Oyster Bar have praised the restaurant all year long.

The eatery boasts more than four out of five stars on Yelp, with many users raving about the customer service and fresh seafood. Several patrons said they couldn’t get enough of the pastrami-seasoned swordfish sandwich, which has a taste that some had trouble imagining at first.

“I couldn’t assemble the flavors of swordfish and pastrami in my mind but.....HOLY SMOKES,” one person wrote on Yelp.

167 Raw Oyster Bar has roots going back to 2014 and describes itself as a “New England style Oyster Bar in the heart of historic downtown Charleston.” The restaurant is on King Street, a shopping thoroughfare popular with tourists.

In addition to sandwiches and raw bar items, the menu includes seafood tacos, fried oysters and tuna burgers. There are also bomba potatoes, which are covered in a sauce that has a kick, according to the business’ website.

“Our menu highlights the outstanding seafood mecca that is the East Coast, spanning from New Brunswick, Canada to our local waters here in Charleston and beyond,” the restaurant wrote.

The rankings come in a year when the Charleston area has made its mark on the U.S. food scene. So far, the region has been named a top foodie destination, and its restaurants ranked among the nation’s best outdoor dining spots and best places to eat.

On a state level, the area is home to South Carolina’s highest-ranking pizza shop and brewery, McClatchy News reported.
