Best Room At... Pendry Manhattan WestCHRISTIAN HORAN PHOTOGRAPHY

Behind the grandeur of the Beaux-Arts James A. Farley Building, which now houses Moynihan Station, stands the Pendry Manhattan West—a beacon of modern elegance and serenity in bustling Midtown Manhattan.

Far from just another hotel, this 21-story wonder is a key component of Manhattan West, a 40-acre complex of offices, shops, restaurants, and residential spaces redefining the area. The Pendry boasts 164 guest rooms, including 30 luxurious suites, the Mediterranean restaurant Zou Zou's, a hot lounge, and an enticing open-air terrace bar, offering much more than a mere place to rest. Its unique architectural design, punctuated with an undulating wave-life facade by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, coupled with interiors by Gachot Studios, makes the hotel a feast for the eyes. (Additionally, the High Line, New York City’s elevated park, now culminates at this dynamic spot.)

We talked to General Manager Ash Bhasin about this unique home away from home and the fresh take it offers on a sometimes-overlooked New York neighborhood.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

The Skyline Corner One Bedroom Suite. It’s our second highest suite category, right under the hotel’s Pendry Suite. The suite is incredibly spacious, offering floor-to-ceiling windows and spectacular views of the city. It has a very residential feel and features a living room and an intimate seating area with partial views of the Hudson River. Our guests are able to entertain and enjoy an in-room dining experience in the comfort of their suite with a dining table that seats six guests, and at the end of a day relax in the soaking tub overlooking the west side.

How much does it cost per night?

While rates fluctuate due to availability and demand, the Skyline Corner One Bedroom Suite is currently selling at $3,250 per night.

What makes The Pendry unique among hotels in New York?

I think something that is so evident is the warmth that you feel as soon as you walk through our doors. Our staff is world-class, providing personalized experiences and they truly blow me away in the ways that they have connected with and curated special moments for all of our guests.

How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?

Montage International as a brand is California-based, and this space feels like a perfect blend of California calm meeting New York’s electric energy. Our guests match that vibe perfectly and we are fortunate to host travelers from all over the world. Pendry Manhattan West is truly a sanctuary within the new west side of the city.

What about the neighborhood do you hope guests walk away with?

Manhattan West has it all. It is vibrant with rich cultural and epicurean offerings. With our prime location next to Madison Square Garden, the newly expanded High Line, and Moynihan Train Hall, we hope our guests walk away having enjoyed some of the cultural attractions, art galleries, shopping, and culinary scene.

What are some of the experiences you recommend to guests visiting The Pendry?

For me, a trip to NYC isn’t complete without catching a Broadway show, but for art lovers specifically, I always encourage guests visit The Shed—they host innovate programming showcasing the best of music, arts and culture right now in a stunning setting that’s only steps from our doors. And you can never beat a stroll along the High Line to Chelsea’s art galleries or a visit to the Whitney Museum.
