Washington pizza lovers can get their fix for deep dish pies at two of the top places in the country.

Yelp released its top 100 pizza spots in the U.S. rankings Monday, Jan. 23, and it featured two places in Seattle: Moto and West of Chicago Pizza.

To find the top pizza spots in the country, Yelp identified businesses in the pizza category and ranked those spots based on the total volume and ratings of reviews, and other factors.

Moto — Seattle

Some customers on Yelp have waited three months to get their hands on a Moto pizza, but many say it’s worth the wait.

Moto first opened during the pandemic in 2021 by Lee Kindell, according to Eater. And this year, it ranked No. 41 on Yelp’s list.

Kindell serves Detroit-style pizzas from a small house in West Seattle. The shop is sandwiched between two larger buildings, and it resembles the home in the movie “Up” even down to the balloons “floating” from the chimney.

Deep dish pizzas on the menu include crab, mr. pig, clam chowdah, shrimp, adobo and pepperoni, among others.

The mr. pig pizza seems to be a crowd favorite among Yelp reviewers. It’s made with Filipino pork belly, chimichurri sauce, onion, spiced pork sausage and mr. pig sauce.

“Ordered the Mr Pig and OMG so good! Sauce has a slight sweetness to it and it was absolutely unexpected! The crust is light and crispy. Perfect amount of toppings! Fabulous!!” one reviewer wrote.

There are no dine-in services or phone orders at the West Seattle spot. Orders can be made online, but they usually fill up in one day for the month, according to the business’s website.

Or lucky customers can try to snag a pizza by getting to the shop right when it opens at 4 p.m., Yelp reviewers said.

Moto also recently opened a second location in the Edmonds, about 20 miles north of Seattle.

West of Chicago Pizza Company — Seattle

Another pizza spot in West Seattle also ranked among the top places in the country for pizza.

West of Chicago Pizza Company landed No. 60, and it serves deep dish and other “Chicago food.”

“West of Chicago Pizza Company is officially my all-time favorite Chicago-style pizza spot in Seattle. Plus, it’s the first place my picky boyfriend who grew up in Chicago has deemed truly authentic,” one Yelp reviewer wrote.

Customers can order a 9-inch pie or a 12-inch one. Pizzas include the original with sausage, pepperoni and onion; mama’s meatball made with meatballs, garlic, ricotta and mama’s lil peppers; and the tree hugger, which comes with roasted garlic, mushroom, spinach and artichoke.

Thin crust pizzas called tavern-style are also an option, too.

“Like no other pizza in West Seattle, and our family now craves it big time. The meat, veg, sauce and cheese are balanced perfectly and simply scrumptious,” another reviewer said.
