Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) Awarded to ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’ at the 2021 Golden Globes

Grab the confetti, because the time has come to honor one lucky film with a highly prestigious award.

The 78th annual Golden Globes took place virtually tonight on NBC. During the ceremony, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm won the award for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical).

The movie was up against Hamilton, Music, Palm Springs and The Prom.

The Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture has been around since 1944. However, it wasn’t until 1951 when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association split the category into two (Drama and Comedy/Musical) that it became its own award.

The first-ever statuette was given to An American in Paris, followed by With a Song in My Heart, Carmen Jones, Guys and Dolls, The King and I and Les Girls. The most recent winners include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Green Book, Lady Bird, La La Land, The Martian, The Grand Budapest Hotel, American Hustle, Les Misérables, The Artist, The Kids Are All Right, The Hangover, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Dreamgirls, Walk the Line, Sideways, Lost in Translation and Chicago.

The 78th annual Golden Globes were hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Although the dynamic duo previously served as hosts in 2013, 2014 and 2015, this is the first time they had to do it from opposite sides of the country.

This calls for a bottle (or two) of bubbly.
