Here’s the best new independent restaurant of 2022 in Fresno, according to readers

We asked Bee readers to vote for the best new independent restaurant of 2022.

Their overwhelming favorite: 99 Craft Pizza.

It got 56% of the vote.

Keep reading to see the second- and third-place finishers in our poll, but 99 Craft Pizza is a Detroit-style pizza place that opened in northwest Fresno a few months ago.

At the southeast corner of Palm and Nees avenues, you need to drive into the Boardwalk at Palm Bluffs office park to get to it. It’s at 585 W. Nees Ave., Suite 123.

Essentially, it serves both deep-crust Detroit-style pizza and the more familiar California-style pizza.

Its signature pizza is the PBR (pepperoni, basil and ricotta), served with little curled cups of pepperoni holding roasted garlic that also catch hot honey when its drizzled over top the whole thing.

Second place: Hammy’s Smashburgers

The next closest finisher was Hammy’s Smashburgers with 32% of the vote.

At 4388 W. Shaw Ave., this restaurant opened in late October in the former Chubby’s Diner. You may have read about it our story about Fresno’s growing burger scene last fall.

It specializes in burger patties smashed on the grill til they’re thin and crispy.

Third place: Locked In

The seafood restaurant and bar is at 3045 W. Bullard Ave., (the former Fat Boys Taqueria spot) at the corner of Marks Avenue.

It serves Mexican seafood and has a full bar.
