What’s the best dive bar in Fresno/Clovis? Here’s what Bee readers say, plus runners-up

Everybody loves a good dive bar.

So last week, we thought we’d have a little fun and ask Bee readers in a highly unscientific, just-for-kicks poll who they think has the best dive bar in town.

The clear winner? Outlaw Tavern in Clovis, with 55% of the vote. (Keep reading to see who’s in the Top 10.)

Outlaw Tavern is in Old Town Clovis, at 325 Clovis Avenue, in the shopping center just north of all the restaurants in Old Town proper.

It’s got cold beer, friendly bartenders, a dance floor and live music most weekends. According to Yelp.com reviewers, Coors Light appears to be the beer of choice here.

What Outlaw customers say

If you’ve never been to Outlaw, you can get a feel for it from Yelp reviews like the one from JS: “Coors light, Jameson and Touchtunes jukebox! What else do you need?”

Or as Samuel O. put it: “First time in this place..... and it was very entertaining. I drank way too much of course, and I’m glad I didn’t puke in my Uber. Everybody was friendly, and that’s not what I expected. Being from the mountains, I am used to either a fight or two, or some kind of strange altercation type drama situation every time I go to a bar. This was not like that at all.”

How dive bar is it? Or maybe we should ask, how Clovis is it? There’s a photo on Yelp from 2016 of a man in a cowboy hat who rode his horse into the bar.
